"Revert" is an insulting term. Don't use it, don't dare try to justify it, and do not ever dare think use of insulting terms is unimportant. "Revert" in English means , to go from an improved state to an earlier, worse state. One says, "The ex-prisoner was doing well after their release, but reverted to criminal behavior," or, "The patient's health was improving, but they reverted to a critical condition." One does not ever say, "The student was doing poorly, but reverted to good grades."
The term “revert” became popular among some Desi Muslim groups in the UK, who were trying to elimante any terms or language used by Christians. Not being native speakers of English, they chose the word "revert" to replace "convert", not knowing that it always carries negative connotations.
In addition, in rural parts of the USA, especially in the South and Southwest, "revert" is confused with "prevert", a common mispronunciation of "pervert". Calling somene "revert" could result in being physically attacked.
"Convert" is the English word for changing from one religion to another. The word for coming back to the fitra, the natural state, is "return". "Revert" is always a negative change.
